About Houston Southwest (Ft. Bend County)

SUGARLAND COMMUNITY PROFILE

Welcome to Sugar Land, #1 in growth among Texas' 45 largest cities. Sugar Land is an economically strong and culturally diverse city of approximately 65,000 residents. Sugar Land is a full-service municipality providing the highest quality of affordable services to meet the needs of its citizens. Master-planned communities and welcoming neighborhoods enhance home values and create a sense of belonging. The community offers outstanding schools, libraries, civic organizations and other resources that make Sugar Land a great place to work, live and raise a family. According to the year 2000 Census Sugar Land ranks #1 in growth in the Houston metro area and #1 among the state's 45 largest cities. The City's population jumped from 24,529 in 1990 to 63,328 in 2000 - a 158 percent increase.

City employees are often asked if Sugar Land is spelled as one word or two. The definitive answer to that common question is that Sugar Land is two separate words. There is a misconception that at one time it was spelled as one word, "Sugarland," and then changed to the two word spelling. The confusion in spelling is understandable, especially to newcomers who see some company names use the one word version. Businesses chose that particular spelling to meet their needs, and it has no connection to the City spelling of Sugar Land. The City's name was derived from the land on which Sugar Land is built, one rich with sugar cane and still the home of Imperial Holly Corporation, one of the nation's largest producers and marketers of refined sugar and the oldest continuously operating business in the state of Texas.

ROSENBERG COMMUNITY PROFILE

Stability
With fiscal policies that are historically conservative and a wide variety of neighborhood lifestyles, Rosenberg naturally attracts residents and business people who value long-term commitments. Through the years, these commitments have become a source of municipal and individual self-confidence, creating the intrinsic stability that few communities can claim.

Diversity
In real-world America, adults and children alike interact with people of varying cultures, ethnicities, races, genders and ages. This diversity of humankind creates a rich synergy that enhances programs and empowers people in the both workplace and the schoolyard. The key to creating this synergy is the natural respect that develops when distinct individuals work, learn and play together, just like they do every day in Rosenberg.

Opportunity
There are no barriers in Rosenberg! If you believe in the value of the work ethic, if you believe that children truly are the future, if you believe that people should be judged by character and performance, you will, in all probability, thrive in Rosenberg. Your opportunity is limited only by your imagination, and the "in crowd" in Rosenberg is made up of anyone who wants to participate.
